Year 2013: Highs and Lows

Today as we step into 2014, i feel like taking a look into the year that was. A year that has redefined lot of things around us. The most prominent being the state of political affairs in the country as we found to two men rising and rising in a very big way. One was always a seasoned politician but then his popularity and charisma was restricted to a particular state largely and the other was just among the few recognized 'common men' in the country. I am talking of Narendra Modi and Arvind Kejriwal. While the first has emerged as the most promising candidate to become the PM of the country in four to five months time from now, the other has become the CM of Delhi by floating a party which was hardly known to exist till the other day. His party's name AAP or the Aam Aadmi Party became the buzzword among various people in the country. 
Coming to sports, the year has largely been the year of Sachin for not his cricketing endeavors but for being a part of several victories as a team member. First was being a part of the Mumbai Indians cricket team that won the IPL of 2013 and then later on being a part of several victories brought about by Dhoni and his men. Finally the master genius was found to bid adieu to the game in November on his home turf. 
The world of Bollywood truly belonged to two people. First and foremost, it belonged to Deepika Padukone who had three back to back hits as the lead heroine of movies. Her final movie of 2013 Ram Leela was just awesome. She performed superbly across various genres of performances. Another person to be named is definitely SRK who once again through his Chennai Express proved that he was and is truly the BAazigar of Bollywood. A man who was simply down and out was found to bounce back in a big big way. Bollywood lost two major personalities in 2013 - Manna Dey and Farooq Sheikh. I believe that the demise of both these personalities was truly a mammoth loss for Bollywood.
The month of June in 2013 witnessed one of the most severe and nightmarish floods in the state of Uttarakhand as thousands of people were just wiped off in the flash floods. 
All in all, 2013 was a year of mixed emotions, mixed news items; a year that had its ups and downs and a year that was truly redefining in many ways.
